The Isle of Barra is considered by
those 'in the know' to be one of the most beautiful and
tranquil islands in the Hebrides. Barra is located at the southern tip of the chain of islands
known as the Western Isles which are situated off the west
coast of Scotland.
Only eight miles long and five miles wide
Barra has an exceptional coastline and breath-taking
scenery. Attached by causeway to the island of Vatersay the
islands between them can boast upwards of ten miles of white
sandy beaches. On one of these, the “Traigh Mhor” the daily
air service into Barra lands and is a must see.
Due to its beaches and the abundance of small islands that
lie offshore Barra is a heaven for water-sports and these
are well catered for, from kayaking to kite surfing. For
those of you with peace in mind Barra and Vatersay offer
other activities such as beautiful walks, angling and bird
watching. Visit Scotland has recently produced a short
commercial which was filmed in these islands and gives you a
glimpse into what is on offer.VIEW IT HERE
